Get a toll-free number

Updated Thu Oct 08 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

Toll-free numbers (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 and 888) are available anywhere you can buy a number in Ody — Settings → Numbers, the signup wizard, the developer API and MCP — for $10/month each, billed with your existing subscription.

Before you start

  • Only owners and admins can buy numbers.
  • Your plan is billed on the web (Stripe). Plans billed through the App Store can't add toll-free numbers — see Billing on iOS.
  • Toll-free numbers are calling only for now: inbound and outbound calls, voicemail, phone menus, call flows and Astra all work; texting does not (see below).

Pricing

Local number Toll-free number
First one Included with every plan $10/month
Each additional $5/month ($60/year) $10/month ($120/year)
Texting Yes, after 10DLC registration Not yet
Caller ID name (CNAM) Yes Not available on toll-free

A toll-free number never uses up your included number: a workspace whose only line is toll-free pays the plan plus $10/month and can still add a local number at no extra cost. The add-on joins your subscription invoice with automatic proration and follows the same 12-month commitment as the rest of your plan (Add-ons: extra numbers and messaging).

Step-by-step

  1. Click Settings in the left sidebar, then Numbers.

  2. Click Buy a number at the top-right of the "Your numbers" list.

  3. Switch the selector from Local to Toll-free. There's nothing to search — toll-free numbers aren't tied to a region — so Ody fetches available toll-free numbers right away and lists them under the $10/month note, each with a Toll-free chip and its monthly cost.

  4. Don't like the options? Click Show different numbers under the list to load a fresh set.

  5. Click Buy next to the number you want. It's ordered, appears in "Your numbers" with a Toll-free label, and can take calls right away.

  6. Set up how it answers with the chips on its card — Ring order, Voicemail, Phone menu, Call flow or Connect AI — exactly like a local number.

During signup, the Pick your phone number step has the same Toll-free option; a short note under the number list tells you it's an add-on on top of the plan you choose next (Pick your business number).

Texting from a toll-free number

Carriers require a separate Toll-Free Verification before any toll-free number can send texts — it is a different registry from the 10DLC registration local numbers use. Ody doesn't offer Toll-Free Verification yet, so toll-free numbers are not listed in the Trust & compliance card and can't be added to your 10DLC campaign. If you need to text customers, keep (or add) a local number and register it for 10DLC.

Developers

The same rules apply to POST /v1/api/numbers and the MCP buy_number tool: search with type=toll_free, buy the number, and Ody bills the $10/month add-on. Ody determines local vs toll-free from the number itself, so the type you send is only a hint — see Buy numbers and register texting via the API.

Troubleshooting

  • "Toll-free numbers aren't available on plans billed through the App Store yet" — your subscription is an Apple subscription. Move billing to the web from Settings → Billing (or buy from a web-billed workspace), then try again.
  • "No toll-free numbers available right now" — toll-free inventory is shared nationwide and refreshes often; click Try again (or switch to Toll-free again) in a minute.
  • Caller ID shows "Caller ID names aren't available on toll-free numbers" — CNAM registration is a local-number feature; callers see your toll-free number itself.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a toll-free number cost?

$10/month per toll-free number ($120/year on annual billing), added to your existing subscription. Callers pay nothing to reach it.

Does a toll-free number use my plan's included number?

No. The number included with your plan is a local number. A toll-free number is always a $10/month add-on, and your included local number stays available.

Can I text from a toll-free number?

Not yet. Toll-free numbers on Ody are for calls today — texting from toll-free lines requires a separate carrier verification that Ody doesn't offer yet. Local numbers can text after 10DLC registration.

Can I get a toll-free number on an iPhone-billed plan?

No. Plans billed through the App Store can't carry add-ons, so toll-free numbers are available on plans billed on the web. You can switch your billing to the web from Settings → Billing.
