What is 10DLC and why it matters
10DLC ("10-digit long code") is the US carrier registration system for business texting: to send SMS from a local number, the business behind it must be registered with The Campaign Registry — Ody handles the process, but the registration is legally yours.
Why it exists
US carriers require every business sending application-to-person texts from local numbers to register who they are (a brand) and what they send (a campaign). Registered traffic gets reliable deliverability; unregistered traffic is filtered or blocked. It's an industry-wide rule, not an Ody policy.
What it means in Ody
- Receiving texts works immediately — no registration needed.
- Sending texts from a local number is gated until your registration is approved. Until then, sends are refused with a clear message ("texting isn't set up yet" / "still in carrier review").
- Each workspace registers its own brand and campaign — your traffic and sender reputation are never mixed with other Ody customers.
- Toll-free numbers use a separate verification path and aren't covered by 10DLC.
What registration involves
- Business info — legal name, EIN (sole proprietors can register with their personal name instead), address, website, support contact. Carriers vet this against public records.
- Campaign — what kind of messages you send, how customers opt in, and 1–5 real sample messages.
- Carrier review — brand vetting takes minutes to a few hours; campaign review typically 1–3 business days.
