Updated Tue Aug 04 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

Register from Settings โ†’ Numbers โ†’ Text messaging setup: a four-step card โ€” Business info, Campaign, Carrier review, Texting live โ€” that submits your business to The Campaign Registry and enables sending automatically once approved.

Before you start

  • Only owners and admins can register.
  • Have your exact legal details ready โ€” carriers vet them against public records. For companies: legal name as registered with the IRS and your EIN. Sole proprietors can register without an EIN.
  • Fees: a $20 one-time registration fee plus $4/month per messaging-enabled number apply once texting goes live.

Step-by-step

  1. Click Settings in the left sidebar, then Numbers, and scroll to Text messaging setup under "Trust & compliance".

  2. Click Set up texting.

  3. Business info โ€” fill in your business/brand name, entity type, legal company name and EIN (or your legal name for sole proprietors), industry, support email and phone, website, and the registered business address. Nothing is pre-filled. Click Next: campaign details.

  4. Campaign โ€” pick what kind of messages you'll send (Mixed is recommended for customer care + notifications), describe how customers opt in, and write 1โ€“5 sample messages you'd actually send. Accurate samples get approved faster. Opt-out (STOP), help (HELP), and opt-in confirmations are handled automatically with compliant copy.

  5. Click Submit for review.

  6. Carrier review โ€” the card shows live status: Business in review (minutes to a few hours), then Campaign in review (typically 1โ€“3 business days). Click Check status any time to refresh.

  7. Texting live โ€” when the campaign is approved the status flips to Texting enabled, the card lists the local numbers covered, and outbound SMS starts working everywhere in the app.

Troubleshooting

  • If the status shows Business rejected or Campaign rejected, the exact reasons appear on the card โ€” click Edit & resubmit with corrected details.
  • Common rejection causes: EIN or legal name not matching IRS records, an unreachable website, or vague sample messages.
  • Toll-free numbers aren't covered by this flow โ€” they use a separate verification path.
