Search everything in your workspace (⌘K)

Updated Thu Oct 22 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

Press ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) — or click Search at the top of the left rail — to search everything in your workspace from one box. Every result tells you which part of Ody it belongs to, so a phone number that appears as a call, a conversation and a forwarding rule is never a guessing game.

What search covers

You type… Ody finds… …and labels it
A name or a word from a text Conversations, message bodies, internal notes Inbox, Inbox › Internal note
A word someone said on a call Call transcripts, AI call summaries, voicemails Calls — or Calls › Call forwarding if that call was forwarded
A phone number (or part of one) Conversations and calls with that number, the contact, and any of your own lines that match it or forward to it Inbox, Calls, Contacts, Settings › Numbers › Call forwarding
A customer, company, or tag Contacts Contacts
A to-do Tasks Tasks
A teammate's name or email Members Settings › Members
Your AI agent, a knowledge page, a snippet shortcut AI agent, knowledge pages, snippets AI, AI › Knowledge, Inbox › Snippets
A page or setting, in your own words Every screen and settings tab — typing forwarding offers Settings › Numbers right away Go to, Settings › …

Results are grouped by area — Go to, Inbox, Calls, Contacts, Tasks, AI, Settings — and the best match within each group comes first. The chip at the right of each row is the breadcrumb: Settings › Numbers › Call forwarding means that's exactly where you'll land.

Step-by-step

  1. Press ⌘K / Ctrl+K anywhere in the app, press / when you're not typing in a field, or click Search at the top of the left rail.
  2. Type at least two characters. Pages and settings appear instantly; conversations, calls, contacts and the rest follow a moment later.
  3. Use ↑ and ↓ to move, Enter to open the highlighted result, Esc to close. On a mouse, just click a row.
  4. You land on the exact record: a conversation opens in Inbox, a call or contact or task is scrolled into view and briefly outlined on its screen, and a settings result opens Settings on the right tab.

On your phone

Open Inbox and tap the Search messages, calls, contacts, numbers, settings… bar at the top, or tap More → Search. The same search opens full-screen; tap a result to go there.

Good to know

  • Typos and partial numbers work. "orthodontcs" still finds Orthodontics; "555 0188" finds every conversation, call, contact, and line containing those digits.
  • Search respects what you can see. You only get results from inboxes you belong to and settings your role can open. Nothing from another workspace ever appears.
  • During a free trial with inbound texting locked, the content of locked incoming texts is not searchable until the trial is activated — the same rule as the thread view. See Texting during the free trial.
  • Snippets: workspace snippets are searchable by everyone; a personal snippet only shows up for the person who created it.

Troubleshooting

  • No results after two characters? Check the spelling of the first two letters — search matches from the start of a word first. For a phone number, type at least three digits.
  • A conversation you expect is missing? Make sure you're searching in the right workspace (profile menu → workspace switcher) — results never cross workspaces. If a teammate can see it and you can't, ask an owner or admin to check your membership under Settings → Members.
  • The search bar only shows sample results? You're in the demo workspace. Sign in to a live workspace to search your own data.

Frequently asked questions

What can I search for?

Conversations, the text inside messages and internal notes, call transcripts and AI call summaries, voicemails, contacts, tasks, your phone numbers and their forwarding targets, teammates, your AI agent, knowledge pages, snippets, and every page or setting in the app.

Why does a phone number show up more than once?

Because it can live in several places. The same number might be a conversation in Inbox, a call in Calls, a contact, and a forwarding rule on one of your own lines in Settings › Numbers. Each result's label tells you exactly which one it is.

Does search find typos?

Yes, within reason. Typing "orthodontcs" still finds a contact at Orthodontics, and a partial phone number like 512 555 finds everything with those digits.

Can my teammates search conversations they can't see?

No. Search only returns what you could already open — it is scoped to your workspace and respects inbox membership and your role, so nothing from another workspace or an inbox you don't belong to ever appears.
