Verification code not arriving

Updated Mon Sep 21 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

If the SMS code doesn't arrive on the Confirm your mobile number step (the last step on the welcome page, after your identity check), the usual causes are the wrong country selected, a mistyped number, a number that can't receive SMS, or carrier delay — check the flag and number, wait out the 60-second cooldown, and resend.

Checks, in order

  1. Check the country flag, then the number. Ody pre-selects your country from your browser; if the flag is wrong the code goes to the wrong country. Tap the flag to change it, type the number as you'd dial it at home (a leading 0 is fine), and send again. One wrong digit sends the code to someone else.
  2. Can that number receive SMS? The code arrives by text, so landlines and some VoIP lines won't work — use a mobile number.
  3. Wait, then resend. Carrier delivery can lag a minute or two. The Resend button unlocks after a 60-second cooldown — request a fresh code and enter the newest one (older codes stop working once a new one is sent).
  4. Check blocked/spam messages. Some phones filter messages from unknown senders into a separate tab or block them outright.
  5. International number? Codes are sent to mobiles in the Americas, Europe and Oceania. Numbers in Africa or Asia aren't supported and the send is refused with "We can't text numbers in that country" — contact support to complete verification another way. See Supported countries.
  6. "Too many attempts" errors. Sends and code entries are rate-limited to prevent abuse. If you've hit the limit, wait a while (up to an hour) before trying again — requesting more codes sooner won't help.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the code valid?

Codes are short-lived — request a fresh one with Resend if a few minutes have passed, and enter the most recent code you received.

Why is the Resend button counting down?

There's a 60-second cooldown between sends to prevent abuse. Wait for the countdown, then resend.

Can I verify with a landline or VoIP number?

The code arrives by SMS, so the number must be able to receive text messages. Landlines and some VoIP numbers can't.
