Notifications not working
Most "missing notification" reports come down to expectations: Ody's live notifications are in-app — unread badges, the incoming-call banner, and ringing — and they need the app open. Email alerts exist for the things that need a human (missed calls, unanswered texts, AI receptionist recaps, analytics digests) and are controlled per person in Settings → Notifications. Push notifications are on the way.
What works today
- Unread conversations — the Inbox badge and rail count update live as messages arrive.
- Missed calls & voicemails — land in your Inbox with a transcript, marked unread.
- AI receptionist activity — every AI-handled call shows in the conversation with a summary.
- Incoming calls — a ringing banner appears on every screen of an open app.
What arrives by email
Each of these has its own on/off switch in Settings → Notifications (details):
- Missed call — on by default; sent within seconds when nobody (person or AI) picked up.
- Unanswered text — on by default; sent once a text has waited 10 minutes with no team reply, then at most every 4 hours per conversation.
- AI receptionist recap — on by default; sent a few minutes after the AI finishes a call, once the summary is in the app.
- Analytics digest — daily, weekly and/or monthly, off by default; arrives around 7 am in your time zone.
Checks, in order
- Is the app open? Web notifications and ringing need a signed-in Ody tab open (any screen). A closed tab receives nothing — activity waits in the Inbox for your next visit.
- Expecting an email that didn't come? Open Settings → Notifications in the same workspace and confirm the switch is on — preferences are per member and per workspace. Then check the event qualifies: a call answered by a teammate or the AI receptionist is not a missed call; a text answered within 10 minutes never becomes "unanswered"; a conversation that already triggered an unanswered-text email in the last 4 hours won't trigger another; digests only cover closed periods (yesterday, last week, last month). Only members of the inbox the number belongs to are emailed. Finally, search your spam folder for mail from ody.co and allow-list the sender.
- Expecting a lock-screen or browser push? Those aren't built yet. If nothing pops up on your phone's lock screen, that's current behavior, not a bug.
- No ringtone on incoming calls? Browsers gate sound until you've interacted with the page — click anywhere in the tab once. The visual banner shows regardless.
- iPhone not ringing when closed? Background ringing needs VoIP push support (in progress). Keep the app open to receive calls on iPhone, or keep a web tab open on your computer.
- Badge seems stale? Refresh the tab — counts update live over a realtime connection that can drop on flaky networks.

Frequently asked questions
Does Ody send push notifications or emails for new messages?
Email, yes: missed calls, texts unanswered for 10 minutes, AI receptionist recaps, and optional daily/weekly/monthly analytics digests — each with its own switch in Settings → Notifications. Push notifications are still coming; in the app you get unread badges, the incoming-call banner and ringing.
I turned on missed-call emails but got nothing.
Check that you're a member of the inbox the number belongs to, that the call was really missed (calls answered by a person or the AI receptionist don't count), and look in spam for mail from ody.co. Preferences are per workspace, so set them in the workspace the number lives in.
Why didn't my phone ring when the app was closed?
Background ringing on iPhone requires VoIP push support, which is still in progress. For now the iPhone rings while the app is open; the web rings whenever a tab is open.
