The card authorization check, explained
When you start an Ody free trial, we verify your card with two temporary authorizations — the full plan amount, then $1 — and cancel both immediately. You are never charged.
What you'll see
Right after you confirm your card, the Activating your free trial page runs the two checks live:
- Verifying your card covers the plan — a temporary hold for the full recurring amount of the plan you picked (for example $19 for a one-seat monthly Starter; annual plans authorize the yearly amount).
- Confirming your card is reusable — a temporary $1 hold, which catches one-time prepaid cards.
Each hold is cancelled the moment it's approved — the page shows "authorized · cancelled immediately — no charge" next to each step. When both pass, you'll see Your free trial is approved and Ody takes you to the final setup step.
On your bank statement
Your bank may display the authorizations as pending transactions for a few days — that's how card networks show holds, even cancelled ones. They disappear on their own and never post as charges.
Troubleshooting
- "Your card is still being saved" — cards can take a minute to finish saving after checkout. Nothing was declined; click Check again. Don't go back and re-purchase a plan — that can create a duplicate subscription.
- "Your card was declined — insufficient funds" (or another decline) — the exact reason from your bank is shown. Any pending authorization is cancelled automatically. Click Back to plans and try a different card or plan.
- Prepaid or single-use cards — cards that can only approve one transaction fail the reusability check. Use a regular credit or debit card.

Frequently asked questions
Was I charged?
No. Both authorizations are temporary holds that Ody cancels immediately — no money moves. Your bank may show them as pending for a few days before they disappear.
Why is one of the holds the full plan price?
It proves your card can cover the subscription when the trial ends, so you don't hit a surprise decline on day 8.
What's the $1 authorization for?
It confirms the card is reusable — it catches one-time prepaid cards that can only approve a single hold.
