Calling on Android

Updated Tue Oct 06 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)Web & Android

Calling in the Ody Android app is built on Android's native call system (the same framework your phone's dialer uses), so your business calls behave like real phone calls — full-screen ringing on the lock screen, Bluetooth and car answering, mute, speaker and keypad — while going out from your Ody number, not your personal one.

Make a call

  1. Tap the Calls tab.

  2. Tap the keypad button, enter the number, and tap the green call button — or tap the phone button on any call-history entry to call that number back.

  3. The first time, Android asks for microphone permission — allow it. During the call you get mute, speaker, and the keypad for phone-menu tones (DTMF). Ending the call from the in-app screen or from the ongoing-call notification both work.

You can also start calls from a contact's page — open a contact and tap Call.

Receive a call

When a customer calls your Ody number, your phone shows Android's incoming-call screen (full screen if the phone is locked) with the caller's name — from your contacts if they're saved, otherwise the carrier's caller ID or the number — and Answer / Decline buttons. The same call rings your teammates and your own web and iPhone apps simultaneously — first to answer takes it, per your number's ring settings. If you decline, the caller continues to your voicemail or AI agent as configured.

Call history

The Calls tab lists every call on your workspace numbers: direction, duration, and outcome (answered, missed, voicemail). Tap an entry to open the conversation thread with that number; long-press an unsaved number and choose Add to Contacts to save it. Missed calls also appear in the inbox as conversations.

Troubleshooting

  • No sound / can't be heard — check the in-call mute and speaker buttons, then that Ody has Microphone permission in Android Settings → Apps → Ody → Permissions.
  • Calls don't ring when the app is closed — make sure Notifications are allowed for Ody and that battery optimisation isn't restricting it (Settings → Apps → Ody → Battery → Unrestricted). See Notifications on Android.
  • "Calling isn't set up for this workspace" — your workspace has no number yet, or its number isn't connected to calling. Finish setup on the web at app.ody.co → Settings → Numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Do calls use my personal number?

No — calls go out over the internet from your Ody business number. Your personal SIM number is never shown.

Do my Android phone, iPhone and computer ring at the same time?

Yes. Every Ody app shares the same calling credential, so an inbound call rings all of them — answer wherever you are, and the others stop ringing.

Will Ody ring if the app is closed?

Yes, once your workspace's background-ringing is enabled: the app receives a push and shows Android's incoming-call screen even when it's in the background. While the app is open it always rings.

How do I save an unknown caller as a contact?

Long-press their entry in the Calls tab and choose Add to Contacts, or open the conversation and tap the add-contact button in the top bar. The number is filled in for you.
