Change the email you sign in with
To change the email you sign in with, open Settings → Profile, click Change next to Email, enter the new address, and open the confirmation link we send there. Nothing changes until you confirm, and your current address is told about the request.
Before you start
- You can only change the email from the web app at app.ody.co; the iPhone and Android apps pick up the change the next time you sign in.
- You need access to the new inbox. The old inbox is not required.
- The new address must not already belong to another Ody account. If it does, sign in with that account instead, or ask support which account should keep your workspaces.
- Sensitive changes need a recent sign-in. If your last sign-in was more than ten minutes ago, Ody asks you to Confirm it's you (current password, or Continue with Google / Apple) before the request goes out.
- Accounts with a pending deletion, or that are suspended, cannot change their email.
Step-by-step
Click Settings in the left rail, then Profile.
Next to Email, click Change.
Type the new address under New email and click Send confirmation link. If you sign in with Google or Apple you will see a note explaining that you will set a password on the next page.
If asked, confirm it's you with your current password or your Google / Apple account. The request is then sent and the Email row shows Confirm … to finish with the new address, plus Resend link and Cancel change.
Open the email Confirm your new email for Ody in the new inbox and click Confirm new email. The page shows the current and the new address so you can double-check.
If the page asks for a password, choose one (at least 8 characters). This happens when Google or Apple on the old address would otherwise be your only way in. If you already have a password it keeps working, and you can set a new one at the same time if you like.
Click Confirm new email. Your sign-in moves to the new address, every other device is signed out, and both addresses receive a notice.
From now on, sign in with the new email. Your workspaces, numbers, conversations and role in each workspace are unchanged. If you used Google before, you can connect Google again on the new address the next time you sign in with it.
Troubleshooting
- The link expired: confirmation links work once and for 24 hours. In Settings → Profile click Resend link; the newest link is the one that counts.
- "That email already belongs to another Ody account.": the new address is registered to another Ody account. Sign in with that account, or ask support which account should keep your workspaces.
- "That email is already being confirmed for another account.": someone else has a pending change to the same address. Wait for it to expire (24 hours) or ask the owner of that address to cancel it.
- "Too many email change requests.": Ody allows five requests per hour. Use the most recent link, or wait an hour.
- You changed your mind: click Cancel change in Settings → Profile. Nothing has moved until the link is opened.
- You got a notice about a change you didn't request: the email A sign-in email change was requested on your Ody account means someone with access to your signed-in session asked for it. Cancel it under Settings → Profile, change your password, and reply to the notice so our team can review.
- Your old inbox received "Your Ody sign-in email was changed" and it wasn't you: reply to that email immediately from the old address; our team will secure the account.
- Google or Apple stopped working after the change: expected when the old address is gone from your account. Sign in with the new email and the password you set on the confirmation page.

Frequently asked questions
Can I change my email if I sign in with Google or Apple?
Yes. The confirmation page asks you to set a password, because Google or Apple on the old address will stop working. Afterwards you sign in with the new email and that password, and you can connect Google again later with the new address.
Does changing my email move my workspaces, numbers and conversations?
Everything stays. Only the address you sign in with (and where Ody emails you) changes; your role in every workspace is unchanged.
I no longer have access to my old inbox. Can I still change it?
Yes, as long as you can still sign in. The confirmation link goes to the new address; the old one only receives a notice. If you can't sign in at all, write to support and an agent can set up the same change for you to confirm from the new inbox.
Can support just change my email for me?
Support can register the new address and send you the confirmation link, but only you can confirm it, from the new inbox. That rule is what keeps anyone from moving your account with a convincing story.
