Roles and permissions
Every person in an Ody workspace has one of three roles — Owner, Admin, or Member — and the role controls workspace management, not day-to-day calling and texting.
What each role can do
| Capability | Owner | Admin | Member |
|---|---|---|---|
| Use the shared inbox, calls, contacts, tasks | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Rename workspace, change logo | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| Invite and remove members, revoke invites | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| Change roles (Member ↔ Admin) | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| Promote to Owner / change an owner's role | ✅ | — | — |
| Numbers, work schedule, billing, identity verification | ✅ | ✅ | — |
Two safety rules apply:
- Admins can't change an owner's role — only owners can.
- The last owner can't be removed — a workspace always has at least one owner.
Change someone's role
Go to Settings → Members & roles.
Find the person and use the role dropdown next to their name — Member or Admin (owners also see Owner).
The change applies immediately — no save button needed.
When inviting someone, you pick their starting role in the invite composer (Member or Admin).

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Owner and Admin?
Day to day, very little — both manage the workspace. The differences: only owners can change an owner's role or promote someone to Owner, and the last owner can never be removed.
Can a workspace have more than one owner?
Yes. An existing owner can promote a teammate to Owner from the role dropdown in Settings → Members & roles.
Can members send and receive calls and texts?
Yes — every role works the shared inbox and phones. Roles only gate workspace management (settings, members, numbers, billing).
