Why you see a card authorization hold
When you start an Ody free trial, we run two temporary authorizations on your card — one for the full plan amount and one for $1 — and cancel both immediately. They can appear as pending on your statement, but no money is ever charged.
What the two holds are
You'll see them run live on the card-verification page right after checkout:
- A hold for the full recurring plan amount — for example $19 for a 1-user monthly Starter plan, or $420 for an annual Enterprise seat. This proves your card can cover the plan when your trial converts to a paid subscription.
- A $1 hold — this confirms the card is reusable, and catches one-time or prepaid virtual cards that can only approve a single transaction.
Each authorization is voided the moment it's approved — the page shows "authorized · cancelled immediately — no charge" for each step. The hold amount scales with the plan and billing period you picked (monthly plans authorize the monthly amount, annual plans the yearly amount).
Why Ody does this
A free trial gives your workspace a live phone number on day one. The verification step confirms the card behind the trial is real and can support the plan — it protects the phone network from abuse and protects you from a surprise failed payment at the end of the trial.
What it looks like on your statement
- Your bank may show one or both authorizations as pending for a few business days. That's the bank's display window, not a charge.
- A voided authorization never posts. If a pending hold hasn't dropped off after about a week, ask your bank — they release voided authorizations on their own schedule.
Troubleshooting
- My card was declined during verification — the page shows the reason (insufficient funds, transaction not allowed, card expired, and so on). Any pending authorization is cancelled automatically. Try another card and pick your plan again.
- The check says my card is "still being saved" — this is a timing delay, not a decline. Click Check again to re-run the verification.
