Block a contact

Updated Tue Aug 04 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

You block a contact with the Block contact button at the bottom of their contact card — but be aware that today this is a visual marker only, not a carrier-level block.

Step-by-step

  1. Click Contacts in the left sidebar and select the contact.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the contact card and click Block contact. The button turns red and changes to Unblock contact.

  3. To reverse it, click Unblock contact.

What blocking does today (honestly)

  • The blocked state is a visual marker in your current session — it doesn't yet persist across reloads or sync to teammates.
  • Calls and texts from the contact still arrive in your inbox. True number-level blocking, which rejects calls and texts before they reach you, is on the roadmap.

Managing unwanted contacts in the meantime

  • Mark the conversation Done so it stays out of your Open list — see Mark conversations Open or Done.
  • STOP is automatic: if someone replies STOP to your texts, Ody opts them out of your outbound messages automatically per carrier compliance rules.
  • For harassment or fraud, contact support — we can help at the number level.

Frequently asked questions

Does blocking stop their calls and texts?

Not yet. Today the Block button marks the contact visually in your session; their calls and texts still arrive. Number-level blocking that rejects traffic is planned.

How do I deal with unwanted texts right now?

Mark the conversation Done so it leaves your Open list, and remember senders who text STOP are automatically opted out of your outbound texts by compliance rules.
